The craft fair this weekend was so much fun! The weather was gorgeous, so I took the Metro to Dupont Circle and decided to walk up through Adam's Morgan (one of my favorite neighborhoods in DC) to the fair. There was were musicians and belly dancers performing on one of the stages, and tons of people milling around. I took my time, wandering around all of the booths and grabbing cards of all the vendors that I liked. There was a lot of cool stuff! A lot of random, bizarre things too, but mostly cool stuff. Ultimately the one thing I grabbed while I was there was a t-shirt that proclaimed, "I'm a Crafty Bastard!" But I have been visiting websites of all the places that I liked, and I hope to do a little early holiday shopping. ;)

Our State Fair is a great State Fair.
Don't miss it, don't even be late!
Its dollars to donuts, that our State Fair,
Is the best State Fair in our state!

I went back to Dallas for the weekend to visit my family, and we took a day to go enjoy the sprawling spectacle that is the State Fair of Texas. What a fun time! We stuffed ourselves with Belgian waffles and corny dogs, wandered through the Food & Fiber pavilion and the auto show buildings, watched belly dancers and bagpipers, hog handling contests and dog shows, Italian flag throwers and miniature donkeys. After 119 years, the fair still knows how to entertain!
I took pictures of some of my favorite quilts from the Creative Arts building:

And of course I had to go see the blue ribbon Mayhaw jelly that a family friend made. We had some with breakfast on Sunday and I can honestly say it was the best I've ever had.

A new addition in the last few years has been the garden train presented by the North Texas Garden Railway Consortium. It was so cool! Tons of tiny replicas of historic Texas buildings were built out of natural materials and nestled amongst three or four train lines that wound their way around the garden. A few of my favorite spots:
