Instant Art: Framing Paper

There are a variety of ways to create fast, easy, and cheap decorations for your walls. The simplest place to start is your local art store. Most art stores carry a selection of handmade and hand printed decorative papers. Or you can try online. They are intended for wrapping presents or bookbinding, typically, but you can use them at home too.

1. Grab a couple of sheets that you like, and that have colors that coordinate with your room. Make sure to check prices! The papers run anywhere from a few dollars a sheet up to $30 for one print, so be aware.

2. While in the art store, wander over to the pre-made frames. Or check out frame store online. Choose two or three frames with pre-cut mattes included.

3. Once at home, slide the decorative papers into the frames. You may need to trim the papers for them to fit. Or cut costs even further and buy two small frames small enough to fit one sheet of paper.

Another place to look for interesting paper to frame is at a local wallpaper supplier. You can find remnants, or even get out-of-date sample books.

I have tried this - with some nice single sheet wrapping paper of all things. It was a modern design that I really liked, it cost me $2 for a single sheet! I also found some cheap frames at Ikea to frame them in - again, very cheap. A great place to shop for paper is www.paper-source.com. They have a great online store and lots of beautiful paper.
